In the Roman Empire, in the place where Piazza Navona is located today, was the Stadium of Domitian, a space where thousands of Roman citizens gathered and watched the sports of the time. Since the Renaissance, the square has been decorated with three beautiful fountains: Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, Fontana del Moro and Fontana del Nettuno.

That’s because in the 16th century some of the main artists of the Renaissance, such as Raphael and Caravaggio, were given the mission to decorate the walls and ceilings of the church’s chapels.
This square is mainly famous for its 135-step staircase to the Trinità dei Monti church. Piazza di Spagna is a meeting point for Roman citizens, but its steps can also be a good resting place for tourists. At its center is the Fontana della Barcaccia, created by Pietro Bernini for Pope Urban III.
