Day Trip From Rome to Amalfi

AMALFI TOURS

It was the first of the four Maritime Republics, and it was during this period that it reached the height of its splendor. It is a cluster of white houses clinging to the rock and connected by alleys and staircases, and is considered one of the pearls of the Amalfi Coast. A city that every year attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world, just for its charm, its worldliness, its natural and cultural beauties. Nestled in the beautiful and enchanting Bay of Naples, it is definitely worth a visit, even if it is just for a day.

Since it is a very small city, you can safely get around on foot. Once in Amalfi, the first thing you encounter is its Historic Center, with its lively and colorful Piazza Duomo. The square is dominated by the wonderful Cathedral, overlooking the sea. It is from this point that the tour can begin.

A little about the Cathedral of the Apostle Saint Andrew

A must-see is the Cathedral of the Apostle Saint Andrew, in Arabic-Sicilian style, rebuilt in Baroque style in 700, with its magnificent staircase and beautiful cloister, all of which will leave you enchanted.

On the left side of the portico, you enter the Cloister of Paradise, entirely built in oriental style, with slender double arches and columns. Here you can enjoy not only a surreal sense of peace, but also a freshness that will restore you.

The walk in the beautiful city continues with the visit to Rione Vagliendola, where you can admire the Church of San Biagio, with its small Byzantine-style bell tower. From here you can reach Piazza Espírito Santo, where the Valle dei Mulini begins, home, since the Middle Ages, of the ancient paper factories, in fact, not far away, there is the Paper Museum, which still preserves the old machines used to make paper.

We continue the tour in Piazza Municipio, where the town hall is located, a 16th century palace, formerly a monastery. Inside, ancient coins from Amalfi and the traditional costumes worn during the Historic Regatta are on display.

After discovering the beauty of Amalfi, such as the old paper mills, the Duomo, its arsenals, and after shopping in the small, picturesque boutiques and numerous craft shops, it might be a good idea to take other tours.
