What to do in Florence in 1 day

If you only have one day to visit Florence, then the ideal is to stay in the Historic Center and visit some unmissable sights.

Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower

Start at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower, Florence’s iconic Duomo. This monumental work took six centuries to complete, having been enriched by the intervention of various architects over time. As is the case with the facade all worked in marble of different colors.

#Tip: To visit, avoid queuing at the ticket office and buy your ticket in advance online. It costs €18 and gives access to the Cathedral, the dome, the baptistery, the Duomo Museum and Giotto’s bell tower. Don’t forget to book a time to climb the dome, which has one of the best views of the city.

After visiting the Duomo, stroll through the streets of the city, an authentic setting. Stroll through Piazza della Republica and Via de’ Tornabuoni, lined with Italian designer stores. Take a break for lunch with a delicious fresh pasta at the Obicá restaurant

Old Bridge

Continue strolling through the charming alleys of the city and on the way to Ponte Vecchio, stop at the Piggy Market. It’s a great open-air market to buy souvenirs, bags and leather wallets.

Arriving at one of the postcards of the city, the Old Bridge, you will notice that it looks more like a gallery of jewelers, one after the other. In fact, the Bridge has always been one of the most important places of commerce in Florence. In the past, it was also occupied by several other types of businesses, as it appears in the film “The perfume”.

Another curiosity is that there is a secret corridor crossing the Arno River. Built by the Medici family, it connects the Palazzo Vecchio (city hall of Florence) to the Palazzo Pitti. The idea of Corridoio Vasariano was that the family could get home quickly if there were any problems on the city streets.

#Tip: If you are visiting the city in June, don’t miss the magnificent view of the Old Bridge and the fireworks on the Arno River from Ponte Santa Trinita. The 24th of June is the feast day of Saint John, the patron saint of Florence, and the city celebrates throughout the day.

Finish like a true local, eating a wonderful Florentine steak accompanied by a glass of Chianti at the Il Latini restaurant.
