AD. as an arena where people from different social classes could have fun and be entertained, especially with fights between gladiators and wild animals. It is believed that the audience of the arena reached up to 70 thousand spectators!

The construction of the space is impressive, not only because of its size and the enormous stone blocks, but also because of what is known about its construction during the Roman Empire, when there were elevators and ramps that provided access between the lower part and top of the sand. The so-called Flavio Amphitheater is open to the public, who can visit it internally on their own or with a guide.

Roman Forum and Palatine

An integral part of the entrance to the Coliseum, the Roman Forum corresponds to an area close to the old arena, and is the space where the main activities of the life of imperial and republican Roman society took place. There were public and religious buildings, such as temples and squares, where speeches, processes and public ceremonies took place.

Today the area is in ruins, but some buildings are very well preserved and can be visited inside. Among the points of interest of the Roman Forum are the Temple of Saturn, Basilica Emilia, Arch of Settimio Severo, and the Via Sacra, the main street of the time.

Inside the Pantheon are the tombs of important figures in Italian history, such as the painter Rafael Sanzio and two Italian kings, Humberto I and Vittorio Emanuelle II, a symbol of Italian unification.

Venice Square

One of the main squares in Rome, Piazza Venezia marks the meeting of 5 major streets of the Italian capital and gathers important buildings around it, among them the National Monument to Vittorio Emanuelle II, symbol of Italian unification.

The imposing monument to Vittorio Emanuelle, or “Altar of the Fatherland”, was built between 1885 and 1935 in neoclassical style, with white marble. On site is the Risorgimento Museum, as the Italian unification movement is called, which has a panoramic terrace from which you have a beautiful view of the city and the Roman Forum, and houses the tomb of the unknown soldier, representing all those who died during World War I.

Entrance to the monument is free.

Capitoline Museums and Square

It is one of the 7 hills on which Rome was founded and which since the 16th century has taken on the appearance it has today, designed by Michelangelo.

The square, which brought together the city’s civil activities until the end of the Middle Ages, and houses important buildings such as Palazzo Senatorio, Nuovo and dei Conservatori – in these last two palaces are the Capitoline Museums –, in addition to an emblematic staircase, where many people take pictures.

The Capitoline Museums (Musei Capitolini) are part of a complex of great importance for the city, since they were founded in 1471, one of the oldest museums in the world. Around the square is located the Embassy of Spain, as well as many shops and restaurants. The fountain in the center of the square is always sought after for photos, as well as the emblematic staircase, where many people take the opportunity to admire.
