MONTEPULCIANO, the first of them, is one of the regions with the most incredible landscapes in Tuscany, so enjoy it without moderation. In town, visit Piazza Grande, Palazzo Comunale, Cathedral and Palazzo Contucci. Also visit the cellars located in palaces for a tasting of wines and cold cuts. In fact, the city is known for the wines Nobile de Montepulciano and Rosso de Montepulciano, in addition to having been the setting for the movie “New Moon”, from the Twilight series.

Rome to Tuscany Day TripIn PIENZA, the Renaissance atmosphere prevails. Known for being the place where Pope Pius II was born, the municipality also has an unmissable attraction: pecorino sheep’s cheese, one of the local specialties. Some points that deserve your attention are the Porta al Prato, the Piazza Grande, the Duomo and the Torre dell’Orologio. It is between Montepulciano and Pienza that the Val d’Orcia is located, considered a UNESCO Heritage Site due to its panoramic landscapes.

MONTALCINO is also part of the Val d’Orcia and is situated on a hill between the valleys of the River Ombrone. The place is also known for the Brunello di Montalcino wine. Despite this being the most traditional in the region, the city is still known for the Rosso de Montalcino Doc, the Sant’Atimo Doc and the Moscadelo Doc.

SIENA

Montalcino is just 40 km from Siena, the next city that deserves the tourist’s attention. Also built on the hill, the medieval city is surrounded by walls and once competed with Florence for commercial dominance in the region. It has excellent infrastructure and very famous points of interest, such as Palazzo Pubblico, Piazza del Duomo and Piazza del Campo.

SAN GIMIGNANO

Leaving Siena, it is another 90 km to San Gimignano. In Tuscany it is very worthwhile to take alternative roads, such as the Chianti Route, which is between the two cities. Full of breathtaking landscapes, the road is known for the production of one of the most famous wines in Italy and for its saffron fields and vineyards! The route also passes through the Val d’Elsa, another very beautiful region of Tuscany.

Once in San Gimignano, tourists will understand how the small town is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Full of towers, the town also guarantees good points of interest, such as Piazza della Cisterna, the Cathedral, Piazza Pecori and Palazzo Vecchio del Podesta.

FLORENCE

Rome to Tuscany Day TripThe end of your road trip couldn’t happen in a better city. Breathing art, Florence is not only the capital of Tuscany but also of the Renaissance. Set aside a good few days to explore the municipality, which is one of the most culturally and historically rich in Italy. Some of the most must-see spots are Piazza del Duomo, Santa Maria del Fiori Cathedral, Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, Degli Uffizi Gallery and Galeria dell’Academia (where the David, Michelangelo’s iconic work, is located).

If you have more days available, be sure to stop by Pisa, Lucca, Volterra, Cortona and Arezzo. Even in Cortona, you’ll feel like you’re in the movie “Under the Tuscan Sun”, while in Arezzo scenes from “Life is beautiful” by Roberto Benigni were filmed. Enjoying this region calmly, by car, will guarantee unforgettable memories for you, traveller.
