Rome Shore Excursions

Colosseum

You can take a tour of the Colosseum to discover the most famous amphitheater of antiquity. Don’t miss the Arch of Constantine which is a magnificent triumphal arch located next to the Colosseum.

Roman Forums

From the Colosseum, I recommend going to see the Roman Forums going up Via dei Fori Imperiali avenue. This way you will have a good overview of the Forums without going to visit them inside because the visit is very long…

In fact, the Roman Forum is the most important archaeological site in Rome. It covers an area of 4 hectares located between the Capitol hills and the Palatine Hill. You can discover many remains from the Roman era: The Senate, the tribune of harangues, the temple of Saturn, Castor and Pollux, Concordia and several basilicas, arches, columns, sculptures…

Capitol Square

Continuing on Via dei Fori Imperiali, you will arrive at Piazza Campidoglio. This magnificent square was designed by Michelangelo.

The Capitol is located on one of the Seven Hills of Rome. It represented the religious and political center of Ancient Rome.

The New Palace and the Conservators’ Palace can be visited because they are transformed into museums. Tourists will discover famous collections of ancient statues, such as the famous She-Wolf suckling Romulus and Remus and beautiful paintings from different eras.

Rome Shore Excursions

Imperial Palace

From Place du Capitole, you will turn left and go to the Fonte dei Leoni Egizi. Then you will turn right towards Via del Teatro di Marcello. You will reach Piazza Venezia where the famous monument dedicated to Victor Emmanuel II is located.

Monument dedicated to Victor Emmanuel II who is also called Altar of the Fatherland or Victorian or Imperial Palace is simply sumptuous and majestic.

Trajan’s Forum

Piazza Venezia, on the right, you will have to return to Avenida Via dei Fori Imperiali to reach via Via Foro Traiano the Forum of Trajan and its famous sculpted column. It is the last of the imperial forums that were built in Rome and one of the best preserved today.

Busy morning, it’s time to regain strength…

Where to eat at lunchtime?

Right next to Trajan’s Forum (Foro Traiano, 82) is a nice and quiet little restaurant with a nice view of Trajan’s Column and interesting prices!

After the party, you will go on a 10-minute digestive walk!

You will have to take over the management of Plaza Venezia to join Via del Corso which you will follow to Via del Caravita. You will take this street on the left to continue straight until Pantheon.

Pantheon

The Pantheon is one of the most famous ancient monuments in Rome. It was originally a sacred monument dedicated to the gods (Mars, Venus…). Today it is a chapel that houses the tombs of important Italian personalities, in particular that of Raphael.

St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican is one of the largest and most famous in the world. This square where St. Peter’s Basilica is located welcomed more than 300,000 people!

Here is the most important religious monument of Catholicism: St. Peter’s Basilica. This is where the Pope celebrates the most important liturgies. This basilica was built on the site of the tomb of Saint Peter (apostle of Christ), near the ancient circus of Nero, in which the apostle Saint Peter was tortured to death.

In the papal palaces of the Vatican, there is the famous Sistine Chapel, which is part of the Vatican Museums. This chapel serves as a location for pontifical ceremonies and for conclaves to elect a new pope.

It can be visited especially for its ceiling that Michelangelo painted in 4 years. It is a huge fresco that represents scenes from Genesis: the creation of the Sun, the Moon, Adam and Eve, darkness and light, etc…

Castel Sant’Angelo

You will then have to walk for a quarter of an hour on the Via de Conciliación then the Lungotevere Castello to join the Castel Sant’Angelo.
