Sedile Dominova
Built in the 14th century as Domus Novae (hence Dominova), the small square building in the historic center of Sorrento is the only evidence in Campania of the ancient noble seats, the medieval institutions responsible for the administration of the res publica.
The Sedile Dominova, which reflects a Renaissance-style architecture resulting from numerous alterations made over time that have erased its original appearance, appears as an arched loggia closed on two sides by balustrades while spectacular perspective frescoes decorate the walls of the other two.
The loggia is surmounted by a seventeenth-century dome in green and yellow majolica. Vault of the dome depicts the heraldic insignia of the noble families that were part of the Sedile. Small room adjacent to the loggia, used by the noble families of the time for private meetings, has been the headquarters of the Società Operaia per il Mutuo Soccorso since 1895.
Piazza della Vittoria

The people of Sorrento say “abbasc’ o monument” (down to the monument) to indicate a landmark in the square, the Monument to the Fallen of the First World War, a work by the artist of Calabrian origin Francesco Jerace created at the beginning of the twentieth century. The statue depicts the Winged Victory that gave its name to the square and has a vertical stele behind it with the names of the fallen engraved on the four sides.

Marina Grande and Marina Piccola
A picturesque seaside village that can be accessed by walking along a narrow street with stone steps and crossing the ancient Greek gate, Marina Grande retains the charm of the fishing village that it once was with its colorful houses, boats and nets pulled onto the shore.
The village, made famous by the film with Vittorio De Sica and Sofia Loren “Bread, Love, and …”, offers characteristic little clubs, restaurants and beach resorts.
Nothing remains, however, of the shipyards that in the past in this very place, built the famous “gozzi sorrentini”, wooden boats with oars and sails, suitable for fishing. On July 26th, the marina celebrates Sant’Anna, the protector of the village, to whom the church is dedicated.

Marina Piccola is the port of Sorrento, an important landing place for ferries and hydrofoils, located not far from the central Piazza Tasso. The port, located in a beautiful inlet, was once called Marina di Capo Cervo from the name of the promontory that overlooks it.
The works for its construction (1912) transformed the original appearance of the place that survives only in the small chapel dedicated to Santa Maria de Soccorso and the souls of Purgatory. On the side of the port there are the bathing establishments that often, due to the small size of the beach, are built on stilts on the water.
The Museum of Wooden Inlay
The Museum of Wooden Inlay is located in the ancient heart of Sorrento, on two floors of the restored Palazzo Pomarici Santomasi. This small but beautiful museum houses precious pieces of furniture, ranging from the 15th to the 19th century, by master craftsmen, both national and from Sorrento, made with the technique of wooden inlay.
The inlay technique is still used by about seven hundred expert craftsmen who continue the traditional and historic workmanship, with a renewal of the design and the processing phases.
The founder of the museum, architect Alessandro Fiorentino, likes to call it a “Museo Bottega” because inside it the manufacturing techniques are retraced, from “mosaic to ricaccio”, and the materials used are illustrated, the period photos that portray the craftsmen in the various stages of manufacturing and the decorative themes, with the exhibition of authentic pieces.
A technical and artistic installation, which finds its most evocative moment on the second floor where there is a re-creation of 19th-century corners and rooms of the noble houses of Sorrento, with wonderful “segreter,” studies, relaxation areas, bedrooms, singular pieces such as the containers of collective games and new contemporary structures created by some of the most important national and international designers such as Sawaya, Portoghesi, Alison, Morandini, Mendini, Fiorentino and D’Alisi.
Furthermore, the museum collection includes a series of paintings by Italian and foreign artists of the 19th century such as Pitloo, Carelli, Colemann, la Volpe, Scedrin, together with prints and period photographs.
Museum opening hours: every day from 9:30 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 19:00 from 1 April to 31 October; every day from 9:30 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00 from 1 November to 31 March. Closed on Mondays and national holidays.
Ticket price: including the guide is €8 for individuals, €5 for groups of at least 15 people with mandatory reservation.
