Each small town on the Amalfi Coast has a different beauty and attractions. Amalfi and Positano are the best known cities in the region, but there are many other places that can be explored and offer wonderful experiences! Not without reason this is an area known as one of the most beautiful in Italy, which many couples choose as their wedding destination.

As the area is made up of several towns, the great thing for anyone visiting the Amalfi Coast is to take the time to walk, explore and get to know these small towns. With cobblestone streets, churches, gardens, beaches and well-maintained squares, the cool thing about the Amalfi Coast is being able to enjoy its atmosphere, sit on a stool and enjoy the view, have an ice cream enjoying the view of the buildings on the slopes of the hills or simply take a boat ride! In fact, “traveling” from one city to another on the Amalfi Coast is already an unmissable program…

Rome to Amalfi Coast Day Trip

Positano

It is one of the best-known cities on the Amalfi Coast, always sought after for photo shoots for its stunning look. With an area of less than 9km², it is the “first” city on the coast considering the west-east direction. It is a very steep city, with a “little center” that is on the edge of the sea and restricted vehicle access. Parking in Positano can be a difficult mission, as in other small towns on the Amalfi Coast, so I recommend that you visit the place without a car.

The streets of Positano themselves, flowered, with handicraft and gift shops, are already an attraction; but beyond that, there are classic places worth visiting and photographing.

Among the main attractions of the city are the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, with a Byzantine-style dome that can be admired from various points of Positano, as well as Playa Grande (the center and soul of the city) and Playa di Fornillo.

The hustle and bustle of Positano is concentrated around Big beach (Spiaggia Grande), a beach about 300 meters long, where there are beach clubs, seaside restaurants and the “port”, where several boats throughout the day.

Even if you only have a few days to visit the region, Positano is one of those places you cannot miss! It’s too beautiful and worth being part of your itinerary.

Amalfi

Another of the main cities on the Amalfi Coast, small Amalfi has around 5,000 inhabitants. The city is on the shores of the sea, has a beach with restaurants with a beautiful view and a lively center, where there are restaurants, ice cream parlors, gift shops and Piazza del Duomo, which houses the city’s cathedral. It is a super charming place, with an architectural and visual set that is an attraction in itself.

Amalfi was one of the most important and powerful Maritime Republics in Italian history, which were port cities that stood out for trade and economic and military prosperity. The city is so important to the country’s history that its symbol is represented on the flag of the Military Navy, one of the Italian armed forces.

It is worth taking the time to enjoy the view from the pier in front of the city, enjoy the Marina Grande Beach if you are traveling in summer and visit the Duomo di Sant’Andrea, the city’s cathedral, whose construction began in the 9th century. Inside the Duomo you can visit the Basilica of the Crucifix, which was the first cathedral in Amalfi.

Visit to the Paper Museum, located in an old handmade paper factory, and the Valley of the Mills, a mountainous valley on the Amalfi coast, where you can admire lemon plantations, waterfalls and mills.

Rome to Amalfi Coast Day Trip

Sorrento

Charming streets, good restaurants and hotels that don’t lack structure. In addition, the city has cliffs and was built on its highest part, so it looks very beautiful.

In Sorrento there are some small attractions that are worth visiting, including Corso Italia, a small street full of shops and restaurants, the Vallone dei Mulini (Valley of the Mills) and Piazza Tasso, the main square of the city, which was built on a kind of canyon that is in the middle of Sorrento! The formation is curious and worth a selfie!

Piazza Tasso is the heart of Sorrento and is full of people having an aperitif in the late afternoon! From this square you can take the opportunity to visit the Cathedral of Saints Filippo and Giacomo and the Cloister of San Francesco, the oldest monument in the city, which has a very beautiful structure! Next to the Cloister of San Francesco, also in the center of Sorrento, there is a public garden with a panoramic view of the port and the cliffs, as well as an elevator, which runs between the upper and lower parts of the city.

Visit the Correale di Terranova Museum, the main museum in Sorrento or even take an Italian cooking class, available in different establishments.
