Day Trip From Rome to Amalfi Coast

Discover the Beauty of the Amalfi Coast on a Day Trip from Rome

The Amalfi Coast, a hidden gem south of Naples, awaits you with breathtaking landscapes, charming towns and a rich history. Imagine yourself in a romantic setting where the blue of the sea meets the vibrant colors of the hillside houses, all while savoring delicious local cuisine. A day trip from Rome is the perfect way to experience this unforgettable experience.

A Comfortable and Exclusive Journey

Forget the stress of driving on winding roads or worrying about public transportation. A private driver will pick you up from the comfort of your Rome hotel in a luxury sedan or minivan, ensuring a smooth and relaxing journey. In approximately 2:30 to 3:00 hours, you will be immersed in the beauty of the Costiera Amalfitana, as it is known in Italian.

Scenic Itinerary: An Unforgettable Journey

Get your camera ready! The tour itinerary follows the scenic roads of the Amalfi Coast, offering spectacular views at every turn. You will have the opportunity to admire the natural beauty of the region, with its imposing cliffs, picturesque villages and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. The first stop is the charming town of Amalfi.

Day Trip From Rome to Amalfi Coast

Amalfi: The Heart of the Amalfi Coast

Amalfi, with its rich maritime history and stunning architecture, is the central point of the Amalfi Coast. Explore the historic center, visit the Cathedral, an impressive architectural landmark, and lose yourself in the charming streets, lined with artisan shops and inviting restaurants.

The Cathedral, or rather the Duomo of Amalfi, is one of the city’s main attractions, visible as soon as you arrive at the central square, Piazza del Duomo.

The building dates back to the 10th century, with the tower completely covered in colorful tiles. Entrance to the cathedral costs €3 and includes a visit to the church, the beautiful crypts, the Cloister of Paradise – an outdoor area with some archaeological finds from the city’s old cemetery – and the Basilica of the Crucifix, with some of the relics of the first church built in the city.

Wander through the streets, some of which are labyrinthine tunnels built into the rock. The city’s main street is Via Lorenzo D’Amalfi. It’s also worth walking along Piazza dei Dogi. You’ll find little shops selling limoncello, wines and spices typical of the region, as well as crafts, restaurants for all budgets and ice cream shops. Look for hidden fountains and nativity scenes.

For an excellent view of the city, walk along Via Lungomare dei Cavalieri.

Positano: A charming village with colorful houses and elegant boutiques

It is important to highlight the geography of Positano: a village perched on a cliff overlooking the sea. Therefore, the ups and downs of stairs and hills are a challenge for the breath. By the way, it is practically impossible to drive into the center of Positano or to the beach. Therefore, the main means of transportation is walking. Choose comfortable shoes and get your legs ready.

Shops selling hand-painted ceramics, artisanal sandals and limoncello are everywhere in the countless shops in Positano. They are the main souvenirs and you will want to take everything with you. It is good to know that many ceramics shops do not allow photos (they must be afraid of copies of the designs, I don’t know).

Positano has basically two famous beaches: Spiaggia Grande and Spiaggia del Fornillo.

Day Trip From Rome to Amalfi Coast

Ravello: Famous for its lush gardens and panoramic views of the coast

The view is breathtaking, after all, this was the region where the wealthiest inhabitants of Amalfi built their mansions in the 12th and 13th centuries.

Today, some of the gardens of these properties are open to the public, such as Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone (both entrances cost €7). The views are so incredible that the musician Wagner said he had found the enchanted garden that he mentions in his opera Parsifal.

It is no wonder that Wagner, Virginia Woolf and other renowned artists chose Ravello as their refuge. Or that the city has hosted an international classical music festival since the 1950s. And that it is a wedding destination for people from all over the world. Ravello is truly musical, magical.

The streets are very cute, the craft shops have a much more authentic look and feel than touristy ones (thanks to the city’s colorful craft production) and the view is impressive.

Visit the city’s Cathedral, built in 1086. The Church of San Giovanni del Toro, which is free to enter, has preserved mosaics from the 14th century.

A Personalized Experience

The flexibility of a private tour allows you to customize the itinerary according to your interests. If you have any specific preferences, such as visiting a particular restaurant or exploring a particular town, just let your driver know.

Culinary Delights of the Amalfi Coast

Get ready for an explosion of flavors! The Amalfi Coast is famous for its delicious cuisine, with dishes based on fresh seafood, homemade pasta, tasty cheeses and, of course, the famous limoncello, a refreshing lemon liqueur. Be sure to sample the local specialties at one of the many charming restaurants in the area.

Memories to Remember

A day trip from Rome to the Amalfi Coast is an experience you’ll treasure forever. The region’s natural beauty, combined with its rich history, charming towns and delicious cuisine, create the perfect backdrop for unforgettable memories.
