Considered a World Heritage Site, the Amalfi Coast is a group of 17 small towns facing the Mediterranean Sea, in Italy. The picturesque colorful houses nestled in the terrain, combined with the beautiful nature of the Gulf of Naples region and the history dating back more than 10 centuries

Each small town on the Amalfi Coast has a different beauty and attractions of its own. Amalfi and Positano are the best-known cities in the region, but there are several other places that can be explored and offer wonderful experiences! Not without reason, this is an area known as one of the most beautiful in Italy, which many couples choose as their wedding destination.

As the area is made up of several cities, the main plan for anyone visiting the Amalfi Coast is to take time to walk, explore and get to know these small towns. With cobbled streets, churches, gardens, beaches and well-kept squares, the cool thing about the Amalfi Coast is being able to enjoy its atmosphere, sit on a bench and enjoy the view, have an ice cream while enjoying the landscape of buildings on the sides of the hills or simply take a boat trip! In fact, “travelling” from one city to another on the Amalfi Coast is already an unmissable activity!

Amalfi Coast Tours From Rome

Positano

When you see the colorful houses of Positano rising up the mountain, with the crystal clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea at your feet, you will immediately fall in love with this charming village on the Amalfi Coast. An authentic 3D postcard (very) difficult to match!

It is true that the only notable monument in Positano is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, but the best thing about the Queen of the Amalfi Coast is wandering through its labyrinthine alleys and staircases in search of the best viewpoints.

And, obviously, go down to Marina Grande beach, Positano’s main beach, where you will be treated to a jaw-dropping view of the city, nestled in the steep mountain. If it’s a hot day, don’t miss the opportunity to take the first dive on your itinerary to visit the Amalfi Coast.

Praiano

The next stop on our itinerary to visit the Amalfi Coast will be in the small village of Praiano which, like Positano, is also perched on the steep cliffs that flow into the Tyrrhenian Sea.

It is true that it does not have the glamor of Positano, but it gains points in terms of tranquility and authenticity, as most travelers do not choose Praiano as a stopping point.

Praiano’s main places of interest are the eye-catching churches of San Gennaro and San Luca Evangelista, the ruins of Torre a Mare (a watchtower also known as Torre Assiola) and the scenic Playa Marina di Praia, a small but charming beach nestled between imposing cliffs.

Fiordo di Furore

The Fiorde di Furore is a small fjord formed by an arm of the sea that advances between the steep cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, creating a small and secluded bay with turquoise waters. The setting also gains impact due to the backdrop of a striking arch-shaped bridge between the rocks. No wonder it’s one of the most Instagrammable places on the Amalfi Coast!

Access to the beach is done by going down a stone staircase, which is not always in the best condition. Alternatively, you can also access it by boat. However, keep in mind that the beach is very small and in summer you will find it crowded!

Crowds aside, the biggest drawback of Fiordo di Furore is that it is on the busy road that connects Positano to Amalfi and there are no parking options nearby. If you’re driving, it’s a construction site to pull over. Even if you just want to take the usual photo, the best bet is to take the bus from Praiano.

Amalfi

Amalfi was one of the largest Italian maritime republics (along with Pisa, Genoa and Venice) and its ex-libris is the Duomo di Sant’Andrea, the most beautiful and majestic cathedral on the Amalfi Coast, which is located in the always lively Piazza del Duomo , the epicenter of Amalfi. Be sure to also visit the adjacent Chiostro del Paradiso (Paradise Cloister), the last residence of the city’s illustrious citizens.

After visiting the cathedral (and taking the usual photo on its beautiful stairs), let yourself get lost in the labyrinthine streets of Amalfi where you will find countless excellent restaurants and tempting ice cream shops.
