PIAZZA DEL DUOMO

Piazza del Duomo is one of the main areas of the city of Florence and home to 3 important religious attractions: the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, the Giotto Bell Tower and the San Giovanni Baptistery. Entrance to the church is free, but for the other attractions you need to buy a ticket, which is sold at the Visitors Center, which is to the left of those looking at the church from the front.

GALLERY DELL’ACCADEMIA

The most prominent work in this incredible art gallery is the immense 5.17 meters high statue of David by Michelangelo. The work began to be built in 1501 and was completed in 1504. There are several paintings, books and unfinished marble statues. Inside the Galleria it is forbidden to take pictures.

PIAZZA DELLA SIGNORIA

This L-shaped square is the center of social life in Florence. It is just a few meters from the Duomo area and also from the Arno River and Ponte Vecchio. Piazza Della Signoria is the focal point of Florence’s origins and history and still maintains its reputation as the political center of the city. To the right is the Loggia dei Lanzi. It is a monument shaped by arches on grouped pilasters. On site, there are many outdoor sculptures of ancient and Renaissance art.

PALAZZO VECCHIO

Located in Piazza della Signoria, the palace was built in 1299. At the entrance, there is a reduced replica of Michelangelo’s David (the same one that is on display at the Galleria Dell’Accademia). In addition to being a museum full of works of art, the building also houses the city hall.

GALLERY DEGLI UFFIZI

The Galleria Degli Uffizi houses one of the most famous museums in the world. Uffizi houses works by famous artists such as Botticelli, Caravaggio, Raphael, Remembrandt and Michelangelo. In high season (particularly in July), the waiting time can be up to five hours, so it’s worth purchasing your ticket online on the museum’s website to admire one of the most visited works, Botticelli’s Venus.

SANTA CROCE BASILICA

The Basilica of Santa Croce is the city’s main church of the Franciscan Order. Some of the most illustrious Italians were buried there, such as Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei, Machiavelli and Rossini. At the entrance to the church on the left, there is a statue of Dante Alighieri.

BARGELLO MUSEUM

The building in which the museum is housed was the residence of the Bargello police chief and was used as a prison throughout the 18th century. Currently, the site is used for art exhibitions with many examples of Gothic decorative arts and sculptures. The 14th-century great hall on the first floor features some works by Donatello.
