AMALFI COAST TOUR

SORRENTO

The Amalfi Coast is among Italy’s greatest postcards. The winding coastal road that connects Sorrento to Vietri sul Mare (Strada Statale 163 Amalfitana), passes through wonderful coves and enchanting villages surreally perched on steep mountains that seem to embrace the sea. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 and has become a permanent fixture in the imagination of all travelers.

Itinerary to visit the Amalfi Coast starts in Sorrento, the city of Limoncello, the famous Italian liqueur.

The places we consider must-visit and experiences not to be missed in Sorrento are the following:

Wander around Piazza Tasso, Sorrento’s main square, where you will find the statue of Sorrento’s patron saint, our beloved Saint Anthony.

Walk along Corso Itália, a long and lively pedestrian street full of shops, bars and ice cream shops.

Visit the Sorrento Cathedral dedicated to Santiago and Saint Philip, the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Basilica of Sant’Antonino and the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine.

Visit the Museo Correale di Terranova.

Admire Porta Parsano, the best preserved part of the walls of Bastiano di Parsano

Villa Comunale Park, idyllically situated on top of a cliff overlooking the sea. From there you will be able to see the Gulf of Naples, Cape Sorrento and Mount Vesuvius in one sitting.

POSITANO

Visit Positano, the most iconic location on the Amalfi Coast, not to mention the whole of southern Italy.

When you see the colorful houses of Positano rising up the mountain, with the crystal clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea at your feet, you will immediately fall in love with this charming village on the Amalfi Coast. An authentic 3D postcard (very) difficult to match!

It is true that the only notable monument in Positano is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, but the best thing about the Queen of the Amalfi Coast is wandering through its labyrinthine alleys and staircases (and there are really many of them) in search of the best viewpoints.

And, obviously, go down to Marina Grande beach, Positano’s main beach, where you will be treated to a jaw-dropping view of the city, nestled in the steep mountain.

Our itinerary to visit the Amalfi Coast ends in the historic city of Amalfi, the heart of the Amalfi Coast. It’s best to arrive in Amalfi very late, especially if you’ve chosen to visit the Emerald Grotto, so it’s best to reserve part of your visits for the following day.

AMALFI

Amalfi was one of the largest Italian maritime republics (along with Pisa, Genoa and Venice) and its ex-libris is the Duomo di Sant’Andrea, the most beautiful and majestic cathedral on the Amalfi Coast, which is located in the always lively Piazza del Duomo , the epicenter of Amalfi. Be sure to also visit the adjacent Chiostro del Paradiso (Paradise Cloister), the last residence of the city’s illustrious citizens.

After visiting the cathedral (and taking the usual photo on its beautiful stairs), let yourself get lost in the labyrinthine streets of Amalfi where you will find countless excellent restaurants and tempting ice cream shops.
