The route continues on to Travel Rome – Gubbio, a short visit to this small, 10th-century town. The medieval walled town perched on the steep slopes of Monte Ingino.

The historical centre has a decidedly aspect austere in appearance because of the dark grey stone, narrow streets, and Gothic architecture. Many houses date to the 14th and 15th centuries.

Visit in the Duomo, was built in the late 12th century. The most striking feature is the large rose window in the facade with, at its sides, the symbols of the Evangelists: angel for St Matthew, a lion for St Mark, a winged ox for St Luke and an eagle for St John. The Via dei Consoli is one of Gubbio’s most interesting streets, at this point takes the visitor around the foundations the Palazzo dei Consoli, above the eaves of some Medieval houses. Built at the end of the 15th century by Gattapone in the gothic style.

Inside the Palazzo dei Consoli, upstairs a small art gallery shows works by local painters and the Eugubian Tablets, are a series of seven bronze tablets, that have written in an Umbrian alphabet derived from Etruscan and the Latin translation.

The climb to the church  relatively short and steep takes you up to the watchtower with its incredible views across the Umbrian stunning landscapes.

We will visit the Basilica of St Mary of the Angels located at the bottom of the hill. Containing inside, this little church called Porziuncola, the tiny stone home of St. Francis and his followers, is still preserved the cell in which St. Francis died.

Walks to Eremo delle Carceri and Hermitage located in a steep mountain gorge east of Assisi, where St Francis returned to pray and contemplate as did other hermits before him in the 13th century. When he first came in 1205, the only building here was a tiny 12th-century oratory.
