Nemi in the past has been attended by great artists like Goethe, Stendhal and D’Annunzio that in the country found inspiration for their masterpieces.

The town’s name derives from “Nemus”, the sacred grove of Diana, which extended for most of the volcanic basin around the lake. The remains of the sanctuary and the forests are visible in the area of “Il Giardino” below the cliff on which stands the town, not far from the Museum of Roman Ships.
