The most well-known monument of Florence is Brunelleschi’s dome, it remains the largest brick dome ever constructed. The cathedral is the mother church of the Archdiocese of Florence. Not only is it known for its size and beauty, it also has hundreds of years of history and its dome is a major architectural masterpiece ahead of its time.
In 1982, the historic centre of Florence was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
The centre historic is inside in medieval walls that were built in the 14th century for defense.
